BACKGROUND
Fourteen years at the CFPB, after nearly a decade in private practice and in-house.
Jenelle Dennis founded The Consumer Law Lab in 2026 after 14 years of federal enforcement work at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
At the CFPB, she most recently served as Senior Counsel for Enforcement Policy and Strategy and as Market Lead for Payments. She helped develop the Office of Enforcement's strategic priorities, generated cases for its payments, prepaid, and remittances dockets, and served as its subject matter expert on those issues, counseling case teams on developing factual and legal claims.
She also served on assignments to the Bureau's markets office, working on the 2021 Section 1022 orders to large technology companies about their payments businesses, and to its regulations office, contributing to the Section 1033 personal financial data rights rule and the Section 1071 small business lending data rule.
Before that, as Senior Litigation Counsel, she led individual enforcement cases in which companies were ordered to pay nearly $600 million in consumer redress and civil penalties. Each case is different, and past results do not guarantee a favorable result in any future case.
Before joining the CFPB, she spent nearly a decade in private practice and in-house, handling consumer protection, lending, and real estate matters in Maryland, DC, and Virginia.
